Something's wrong, but Axios can't bring itself to say exactly what
Legacy media gaslighting
Axios Portland is out with a disquieting post regarding a "'Silent surge' of immigration enforcement". "The quieter tactics local advocates say federal agents are using — targeting residents of rural communities or people as they commute to work — are renewing fear for families, leading some to avoid going to medical appointments or the grocery store' according to the Portland Immigrant Rights Commision."
The entire tone of the piece conveys that this is a problem, and you should be appropriately concerned. "PIRC's hotline received more than 700 calls in October last year, many of them reporting ICE activity or sightings."
Except… they're federal law enforcement arresting people who are in the country illegally. This is a perfectly normal & legitimate government function. The post is, in reality, a press release for a radical political group (one that, given that their site posts a Tax ID, I expect is categorized as a "non-profit").
This is the sort of advocacy dressed up as journalism that leads lost souls, looking for purpose & structure, to assault ICE agents and get themselves jailed or worse.
